Bike Ride

While we were at Itasca State Park, we took a bike ride in the park. I had never been on such a long bike ride in my life!! ( We went 16 miles and we didn't even make it around the whole park!!) The first couple miles went okay until about mile 4 when my bike broke. ( My handle bar fell off...) I had to push my bike about a mile to the bike shop to go rent one to finish riding. After we rented a new bike for me, we started off again. About a mile into our bike ride again it started to pour. I have never been that drenched!!! Thank God for Layne's bike trailer. He stayed nice and dry. I would of loved to have joined him in it!! After we finished our bike ride, we dryed off and ate lunch. Then we decided to take a break from the state park and went to explore Bemidji.

He fell asleep in the trailer... So cute!!

For the Love of Etsy....

I'm obsessed with etsy. They have some of the neatest, most unique items that I have ever seen. And the best part is that it is all homemade!! For my friends wedding I bought her a sign like this for her wedding gift. It turned out amazing!!
(This is not the actual sign on got them. I took this off of the site.)
I want to get Matt and Layne this. I think that they would look so cute in matching shirts!!!
If you have never checked out etsy you must!!
My mom and I are working on selling some of our own creation on etsy. Stay tuned for more details on that. ( We are just in the planning stages right now.)

This Just Sickens Me...

I read this on our local news stations website. It just sickens me even thinking about this. I don't understand how anyone could let that many dogs live in nasty conditions. Being the animal lover that I am, it breaks my heart that someone would treat dogs this way. Please read and watch the video.

Dogs Said To Be Found In Unsanitary Conditions

A major dog rescue removed nearly 200 dogs, said to be sick and neglected, from unsanitary conditions in Turner County. The Humane Society of the U.S. was on the scene with local officials to remove the dogs from the facility near Hurley. They were then taken to the Turner County fairgrounds in Parker where they'll be housed and nursed back to health.

The Humane Society of the United States says they rescued 172 dogs from unsanitary conditions in Turner County. Second Chance Rescue says it started the investigation at a property near Hurley after it got a tip from someone who bought a dog from the breeder.

The dogs are now being kept at the Turner County Fairgrounds until the state's attorney processes all the evidence from this case.

The dogs are German Shorthair Pointers and Weimeriners bred to be hunting dogs. But according to the Humane Society of the United States, the conditions the dogs were found in were similar to a puppy mill.

"The dogs themselves are not in horrendous condition. We have veterinarian teams in there looking at them right now. We won't know for a couple days, when we have completed our evaluation on all of the dogs, what their medical conditions are but as far as the conditions we found them in, it doesn't get a whole lot worse than that," Scotlund Hailey with the Humane Society of the U.S. said.

The Humane Society of the United States says on a scale of one to ten, the conditions these dog were living in were a nine.

No charges have been filed, so names have not been released. Officials say the Turner County State's Attorney will take a look at the case Thursday.

According to the Humane Society, puppy mills are not illegal in South Dakota, but the conditions they were found in are.

Boat Ride on Lake Itasca

On our last full day at Itasca, we decided to rent a pontoon boat and try our hand at some fishing. Sadly we didn't catch any fish. (Only lots of grass.) But the boat ride was a lot of fun!!

The view of the headwaters from the lake.

Matt and Layne fishing.

Matt fixing one of the fishing poles.

Layne and I fishing.

My dad had never driven a boat before but got his first chance at driving one. He did a great job. Layne wanted to help drive the boat too so Grandpa let him try his hand at it.

Headwaters of the Mississippi

This was my second time visiting Itasca State Park. I think that the Headwaters are absolutely gorgeous!! Layne had a blast playing in the water. He could of stayed there all day if I would of let him.
Sign that is by the Headwaters.

My Aunt Judy and Layne at the headwaters.

Family Picture. Layne was busy watching the dogs at the headwaters.

Layne standing in the water with grandma.

Layne and I walking in the water. It was so warm. I was half expecting it to be freezing.

Itasca State Park

A couple of weeks ago, we went up to Itasca State Park for a long weekend with my parents, aunt, and cousin. It was a lot of fun. Except that it rained alot while we were there.

Love this picture of the trees.

The cabin Matt, Layne and I stayed in. The second night we were there we were hearing animal noises right outside of our cabin it was kind of freaky!!

The cabin where the rest of the family stayed. Love this picture with all the trees around it!!
