Writer's Workshop: My Conversation with a Telemarketer

I thought I would join in again on this week's Writer's Workshop so here it goes!
When I was in high school, I lived in a townhouse with my mom. ( My parents were separated not legally but they just didn't live together.) The townhouse we lived in had no backyard. There was no windows in the back of the house because behind our house was another townhouse. ( It's hard to explain.) I had to explain this so everyone understands the following conversation I had with a telemarketer.

Phone Rings:
Me: "Hello?"
Telemarketer: " Hi this is Joe from Blankety Blank Windows and Siding. I was recently making rounds in you neighborhood. When I drove by your house I noticed that the siding and windows in your backyard look as though they need to be replaced. I'm calling to offer you a free estimate for this."
Me: "You drove by my house and saw my backyard?"
Telemarketer: "Yes, your siding is in bad shape."
Me: "I would love to know how you found my backyard as I haven't even found it yet and I've lived here 3 years!!"
Click
Awww...Telemarketers. How you annoy the crap out of me but can make me laugh at the same time!! Check out more Writer's Workshop posts here.

Garage Sale Adventures Part 1

Tonight after work Matt and I made our way into Sioux Falls to do some rummaging at Kingswood. I found some great buys!!
I found this stroller car at one of the sales. Layne is obsessed with cars so I just had to get it for him. I payed $25 for it the owner originally wanted $30. It looks brand new after I washed it!!

Layne is going to be a ring bearer in June at my cousin's wedding. Tonight I found him both a tux and dress shoes for a grand total of $17!! I am so excited about this!! I was having a hard time finding him something that was his size. Not anymore!!

I've had my eye on one of these for a long time. I just haven't wanted to pay full price. Well I found one at a sale for $25!! It was only played with a couple of times and looks BRAND NEW!! I am so happy!! Layne will love this!!
Tomorrow morning my mom, Matt and myself are going back to do some more rummaging!! I can't wait!! I'll post more pictures of my finds tomorrow night!!

Wordless Wednesday- Cheesin' Out!

On the Road to Walking

Ever since Layne started officially crawling a couple of weeks ago, he is on to bigger and better ideas. His idea is walking. ( I think he is just going to take off RUNNING though instead!) He is obsessed with walking around objects, letting go of things and standing all by himself, etc. I think that he is going to be walking in no time!! I couldn't be happier though because I just can't wait to be able to chase him around outside!! ( I know I'm going to regret saying that later!!)

A Very Late Easter Post

This post is really late!! I don't know why it has taken me so long to post this. Anyways here is Layne and I on Easter. I think Layne looks just adorable in both of these pictures!! I on the otherhand look like crap. ( Just don't pay any attention to me!) On Easter we went to church with my parents. After church we went out to eat at Texas Roadhouse with my parents, Grandma and Uncle Bob. It was a good relaxing day. Maybe next year I will remember to take more pictures!!

I'm So Excited!!!!!

One of my favorite days of the whole year is fast approaching. And no I'm not talking about my birthday and it isn't Christmas. Next Thursday I will be getting up extra early and driving to Sioux Falls with my mom for this. Some may question my reasoning behind battling other women for cheap finds but I'm all for it. I love a good bargain!! I love the excitement getting a good deal!! Last year Matt and I scoured the rummage sales and I got a brand new never used Medela breast pump for half the price of a new one!!! My mom has gotten alot of the daycare stuff at these rummages too. This year I am hoping to find Layne a coupe as well as a little tykes outdoor climbing toy of some sort. I also want to find some apothecary jars and fabric. Hopefully we will have a successful day of rummaging!! I will update with all of our fabulous finds!!

A Terrible Tragedy

I've participated in the Writer's Workshop blog carnival a couple of times. I think it is just so much fun!! You can check out more entries here.

Last month about 40-50 miles away from where we live, a terrible tragedy took place. While responding to a check of well-being call, a Deputy Sheriff was shot and killed by a 19 year old boy. This story is just heart wrenching. The Sheriff was 32 years old and left behind a wife and two young kids.

Here are some links to find out more about this sad story:

Besides this very sad story that happened not to far from where we live, there has been two other similar incidents that have happened north of us. In Huron there has been two murders in the last month or so. The first one involved to men. One man was trying to save the other man from committing suicide and instead of killing himself, he killed the guy who was trying to help him. The second one involved some sort of love triangle and in the end a 20 year old girl who was 2 or 3 months pregnant was murdered.

I just don't understand what is with people and thinking that violence is nescessary. It bothers me alot. I don't get how the 19 year old boy who killed the Sheriff thought it was a good idea to shoot and kill that man. What comes across people's minds to make them think that this is okay?? Do they just not think it through or do they lack the common sense to determine between right and wrong??
My heart aches for the wife, kids, and family of the officer who was killed. It just isn't fair. I pray for them to find peace in this awful tragedy.

What a Day

Today has been quite the day. Layne did not sleep very well last night. He got up about 5 or 6 different times. He rarely does that. Today he was very irritable. Besides being irritable he was just not himself. This afternoon he did not want to play with anything he just wanted to be held which is very unlike him. When we went outside, I put him in the swing and he immediately fell asleep. That is so UNLIKE him. He usually is fully of energy and just plain "wild" outside. When we got home from daycare I checked his temp because he was really sluggish. His temp was 101.3 . I called Matt and he came home immediately to drive us to the acute care. When the nurse checked his temp at the office it was 100.2 . They drew some blood and did an RSV/Influenza test on him. His blood count was normal and he doesn't have RSV. However, he does have influenza b. The doctor couldn't prescribe him anything but nebs but did recommend that we give a small dose of zyrtec. The doctor said that he could have this for about 7-10 days. I just hope that he gets better before that. I'm just glad that he didn't have RSV. Hopefully we won't be up all night but I have a bad feeling that we will. Please keep Layne in your prayers that he will get better soon and that neither Matt or myself get sick with this!

My Oh My

Last night while I was browsing my favorite craft website I found this website and I am completely obsessed. If you like to scrapbook or have never scrapbooked and want to this site is so easy to use and is so much fun!! Go check it out!! Here are two of the scrapbook pages that I have made using this website.

I have to Come Clean...

I love to watch just about every show that comes on TLC. They are all so addicting. However there is one show I just can't stand. I hate the Duggars!! They seriously drive me up the wall!! However for some reason I am drawn to watching there show because I just don't understand how two people can raise that many kids!! That's 18 kids!! I also have a hard to comprehending how Michelle Duggar manages to homeschool all of those kids. How in the world would you manage to teach that many kids who are different ages all at the same time?!? You can't teach them all the same thing. The whole family is very religious which I don't have a problem with except for the fact that I feel like that they are trying to push their beliefs onto the viewers of their show. ( Especially in the wedding episode of Josh and Anna!!) I don't mind when people share with others their own beliefs. I actually find it kind of interesting!! However the Duggars make me feel inadequate and that my beliefs are wrong. That's probably the main reason why they bother me so much!!

This past weekend as I was watching What Not to Wear, there was a commercial for a new episode of the Duggar's show. There oldest son and daughter in law are pregnant! I'm in total shock and just hope that they are not planning on having as many kids as Josh's parents!!

Crawling

This is a video of Layne crawling that I took this morning. ( I sound deranged in this so pay no attention to me!! LOL)

Friday Fun at the Park

Yesterday Matt and I both had the day off. We decided to take Layne to a park since it was pretty nice outside. It was slightly windy but not to bad. Layne loved it!! Especially the swings!!

Layne and I on the slide. He didn't think the slide was as much fun as the swings!! ( I look awful in this picture so don't pay much attention to me!)
This thing was crazy!! It was this triangle looking seat and you sit on it and it starts spinning as soon as you sit on it. Crazy!! (I got dizzy from it lol )

Wee!!!

Screaming with Happiness!!

Milestones Milestones Everywhere

The last week and a half has been a very busy time for Layne. He has learned how to do so much!

Layne Can:
pull himself up to standing
crawls
besides saying "dad" he says what sounds just like "I did it!" and "Ater" when he wants Tater's attention.
attempts to climb out of his crib
Besides all of those milestones, Layne loves to eat puffs, crackers, and cheerios! His new favorite foods are califlower and blueberries. He also really loves blueberry muffins that he shares with Matt or myself.

He's been a very busy boy and it has been so much fun to watch him grow and learn!! I can't wait to see what else he is going to learn how to do!

I just can't believe that in a little over a week, he is going to be 9 months old!! It feels like he was born just yesterday!

Things I'll Never Be Able To Do Again

I saw this over here and thought it looked like fun. So I just had to do it. Here's my list:

Things I'll Never Be Able To Do Again

4. Pick out my first car

5. Tell my parents that they are going to be grandparents for the first time.

6. Buy my first house.

7. Live in the house I grew up in
